COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – City Council is seeking volunteers to serve on its Districting Process Advisory Committee. City Council is required under City Code Section 5.1.402 to convene the committee, which will serve as an advisory committee to oversee the public process, educate the public, assist the City Clerk, and advise City Council on the districting process. By City Charter, City Council districts are reviewed every four years before district Council Members are elected.
City Council is seeking seven volunteers who reside in the city, reside in the council district they wish to represent, and are registered to vote in the city – one from each of the six Council districts and one at-large volunteer. To avoid the appearance of impropriety, volunteers interested in being candidates for a district council member seat at the April 6, 2021 election are not eligible to serve on the advisory committee. To determine which Council district you reside in, please visit the City’s website here: coloradosprings.gov/city-clerk/page/city-council-districts. To verify your registration status and address, contact the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, or visit www.govotecolorado.gov. City Code requires Council, in selecting the committee members, to strive for gender, racial, ethnic, age and geographic diversity.
The committee’s work will include conducting (with the assistance of the City Clerk and City staff) public meetings to educate and solicit input for the City Clerk’s consideration in drafting her preliminary redistrict report. The advisory committee will prepare preliminary and final advisory committee reports for City Council and the City Clerk. Public meetings will take place in late May, June and early July 2020, and the preliminary advisory committee report will be prepared and presented to City Council in July 2020. The final report and the complete process will be presented to City Council by the end of 2020.
Submit your application by April 29, 2020 online by visiting the City’s website, www.coloradosprings.gov Select “Government,” then “Boards & Commissions” or email your application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
